Pimp Your Tea Cup

Yesterday I went to a DIY-evening organized by Etsy-Labs. It was all about putting some... glamour to our old china, talking, laughing and a couple of beers.
It took place at a beautiful place here in Hamburg: Lokal. A really great place for creative and communicative minds.

It was great to see the huge variety of drawings.
Above you see some of my plates adorned with pretty ladies.

I love this "cut-out" idea!

La Blanchett

"Indiana Jones"

"I'm Not There"

"Aviator"

"Elisabeth"

Cate Blanchett is simply beautiful! One of my favourite actresses... and one of the few true divas. A Diva in the sense of being a lady, elegant, a bit distant and mysterious, an actress devoted to her art.
"Oscar and Lucinda"

Why We Travel

Isabelle Eberhardt traveled the deserts of Northern Africa by her self, dressed like a man, indulging in sex, alcohol and drugs, ran of to marry an Algerian soldier and died in a flush flood at the age of 27.

If you love traveling, exploring, discovering the world around you, if you are adventurous at heart, then read this little essay about why we travel.
The Philosophy of Travel: "We need sometimes, to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment at no matter what."
-George Santayana-
"For if every true love affair can feel like a journey to a foreign country, where you can’t quite speak the language, and you don’t know where you’re going, and you’re pulled ever deeper into the inviting darkness, every trip to a foreign country can be a love affair, where you’re left puzzling over who you are and whom you’ve fallen in love with. All the great travel books are love stories, by some reckoning—from the Odyssey and the Aeneid to the Divine Comedy and the New Testament—and all good trips are, like love, about being carried out of yourself and deposited in the midst of terror and wonder."

Women In Films

Have you already heard about the Bechdel-test? It's about how common and active women are represented in films. Very simple but interesting!
Three questions:
1. Are there two or more women who have names?
2. Do they talk to each other?
3. Do they talk about something besides men?

It's not scientific or about the quality of the film. It's just a very interesting point of view, which is worth thinking about it. And rather scary.
This lady explains it very well. Enjoy!

Architecture And Nature

There is something about the early Modern architecture which I find very intriguing. The simple forms combined with a floating between inside and outside combine nature with culture. Those huge windows. And of course the immense space... I love the bed on the "balcony", and the view. Wow that would be something! I have no idea why the people on the picture still are watching TV :-)

Falling Waters by Frank Lloyd Wright is one of my favorite places. Stunning!

A Place For Uppers And Downers

I adore Jonathan Adler's style. The colors, the happiness, the extravaganza. Aren't these "Vice Canisters" simply wonderful?! I need all of them...
