There is something utterly fascinating about professional crafts. Even if it's about ironing a shirt, or polishing shoes. I could watch them for hours... every single movement is so precise and somehow... beautiful. The mundane becomes art.

I hope I can visit this place one day... "Helgas Folly" in Sri Lanka. Don't compare this place with regular hotels... this is a eccentric clash of freaking art, old days joie de vivre and expressive fun:

I visited Istanbul last week, it was awesome! Such a beautiful, interesting and dazzling city. You can find whatever you want, from highly modern trendy shops and restaurants to oriental bazaars and hammams. It's not only an old city with a rich and fascinating history, but also young and packed with art, music, dance and fashion. I surely have to visit Istanbul again, and then for a longer time.

“The Curtain Dress, symbol of Scarlett’s will to survive, was worn in three scenes: the jail scene in which Scarlett asks Rhett for financial assistance, the scene in which Scarlett walks through the Atlanta streets with Mammy, and the scene in which Scarlett meets Frank Kennedy.

Also known as the Drapery Dress and the Portieres Dress, the dress has a moss green velvet over-skirt that parts in the front to reveal a chartreuse velvet underskirt. It has fitted sleeves with a semi-cape on the left shoulder and a drapery cord belt.The color of the dress presented Plunkett with several problems. It had to suit the color of Vivien Leigh’s eyes and it had to conform to Technicolor specifications. Furthermore, it had to look as if it were made from the draperies at Tara. So the dress was aged as if the sun had faded the material.

The replica of the green curtain dress worn by Scarlett O’Hara was made of 16 yards of Italian cotton velveteen. The silk tassels and cording were reproduced by Scalamandre of New York. The dress took over 200 hours to complete, from April 22 to July 8, 1986. The original is also housed at the Ransom Center.

"Headdresses, or kokoshniks had the greatest abundance of ornamentation of any type of garment in Russia. They were most often made of damask woven with gilt metallic threads or velvet with gold embroidery. The wealthy peasant class often decorated their kokoshniks with pearls and gemstones. The headdresses worn by maidens exposed their hair, considered a prize possession in Russian culture. They were often accompanied by a venchik, a forehead covering made of fabric or metal. Married women were required to cover their hair entirely lest they be considered immodest. The double-headed imperial eagle is common to many cultures throughout history, most notably Byzantium. The dual heads were meant represent the secular and religious sovereignty of the monarch, as well as power over the East and West. This headdress is spectacular both in size and rendering. The dense decoration as well as the Russian heraldic symbol creates a sense of grandeur and importance."

This is a fun and unconventional living-space: recycled containers designed by a former toy-designer Debbie Glassberg in Kansas City, Missouri. Who would have thought you could build up such an amazing turquoise palace out of some metal-cubes. And I love those huge windows... lots of light and sight on a hopefully beautiful nature outside. Oooh and the colors!!!

This short film is about Labiaplasty. An awful new trend taking over in western countries.
On the premise that censorship laws in Australia (and strange aesthetic ideas all over the western world) create distorted body images in women, leading them to mistake what a “normal” vagina looks like, and turn to plastic surgery. How can it be that we condemn female mutilation in African culture, and at the same time have an increasing number of genital surgeries.
Marge Berer:"Women see pictures of women on the Web whose labia appear to be almost nonexistent, and they are concerned that they are abnormal if theirs are a different size. We're talking about women feeling sexually inadequate and seeing this as a way to beautify themselves - or at least that's how it's being sold to them. I find the whole thing unethical on the part of the doctors."

This video includes some tough pictures of the surgery, but this is a tough subject.

Lori Nix is a photographer who builds up her own scenography. Fantastic!

"The scenes I build today are mostly made by hand. There is usually one element I do not feel like creating, such as the piano in "Majestic". I found the piano and then scaled the rest of the scene around it. The size of the piano determined the size of the diorama. My scenes can be as small as 50x60 centimeters and as large as 182 centimeters in diameter. It takes approximately seven months to build and photograph a scene. I build it for one angle of view and never move my camera from that spot. I will change the lighting, the placement of the objects and re-shoot until I'm fully satisfied with the results. I shoot with an 8x10 large format camera and film. I print my own photographs quite large."

Three questions:
1. Are there two or more women who have names?
2. Do they talk to each other?
3. Do they talk about something besides men?

It's not scientific or about the quality of the film. It's just a very interesting point of view, which is worth thinking about it. And rather scary.

There is something about the early Modern architecture which I find very intriguing. The simple forms combined with a floating between inside and outside combine nature with culture. Those huge windows. And of course the immense space... I love the bed on the "balcony", and the view. Wow that would be something! I spent three beautiful weeks on Bali and Lombok. It was amazing!!! I stayed at three wonderful places which I can highly recommend to everyone who is looking for a peaceful pleasant stay without the noise of touristic paths.
The Mu: at the south of Bali, with a breathtaking view on the ocean (last picture).
Via Vacare: peaceful place on Gili Gede (Lombok) with great snorkeling.
Gaia Oasis: if you are looking for a soulful place in heaven... (their web-site doesn't even get close to how stunning that place is). It's located at the north-shore of Bali.
